A MILLION

Very quietly and all alone my blog counter passed the one million mark today.  I told my son in law last weekend that this milestone was about to happen and he said go ahead and tell the blogging world about my number.

I started blogging in 2008. I had no idea what I was doing so for the first six months I was reading blogging for dummies. I didn't post very many times. I had no idea what comments were about. The first person who commented on my blog was Connie from  Far Side of Fifty. Maybe she was the millionth customer this afternoon as she still follows my blog. That's quite a record for Connie.

I'm not a prolific poster but do from 110 to 150 posts a year.

What's so fantastic about blogging? The people you meet and make friends with in blog land.

Thanks , my friends , for visiting me and making blogging fun.

  2. Congrats on your million milestone. I started blogging around the same time as you, 2007 I think, and you have lots of years and sharing with your blog. I've followed you for many a year.

  3. Yay! Congratulations, Red. We started blogging in the same year! Like you, I sure didn't know much about blogging when I started too and didn't know about meeting other bloggers either. I sure am grateful to have met such an adventuresome, fun and interesting fellow retired teacher like you. You have so many interesting life experiences. Here's to another 15 years of blogging! And another million pageviews!

    1. You make a good point about excellent bloggers who've disappeared.

  5. I've never kept track of visitors on the three versions of blogs I've had since 2003. I'm not sure I even have readers that span that entire time but I do still have one that goes back beyond 2008 anyway.

At one time, I was pretty good at picking out those blogs that will last and those that won't. Now, pretty much the only blogs still left are those of us who are long timers. It is rare to find someone who just started up a new blog.

    1. Blogger will tell you what your traffic is. You post often and would be surprised what your number would be. You're right .There aren't many new blogers showing up.

  6. Congratulations Red! A million hits is an enormous number. I have always enjoyed visiting "Hiawatha House" because it is refreshingly unpretentious and most of the content is interesting. I also like the idea of The Micro Manager lurking in the background and no doubt sometimes yelling, "What the hell are you doing Keith?"

Without you, I would never have heard of Red Deer, Alberta. The Mayor should consider giving you the freedom of the city at a special ceremony.

    1. Thanks. I certainly like your blog and comments that make one think. I'm very familiar with the last three mayors. They do a good job and it's tough.

  9. You are also a good friend as well as a fellow blogger. That is one thing that makes it all so worthwhile. I should go look and see what my own number might be. I started in 2009.
