I eat at the Casino two or three times a week. The food is great. The price is the best part. Breakfast is 5 bucks with 6 choices. Wednesday is 2 for one for seniors. We get 2 meals of $26.00 for the price of one $13.00.
Now I've told you before that we don't gamble. We just eat there. There is a senior draw on Wednesday and I've won that twice.
Now you do get a sales pitch from the Casino to gamble so you can get a "wonderful " card. The card gives you so much off on the buffet.
Well a few weeks ago 20000 points ($20.00) was put on my card . So I could go and gamble. You could not redeem the card for cash.
So if you're given $20.00 you might as well try your luck. Well, I have no idea how the machines work. I have no idea where to put my card. I have no idea what to press to play the game.
So I asked somebody. I found the button to make my play.
Well, in less than 5 minutes my $20.00 was gone.
As I left, my thought was that I feel really stupid for letting a machine take all my money. In this case it wasn't my money.
Needless to say, "I'm still not a gambler." I know that they'll send me more points. I'll take them and goof off again.
I cannot believe that people use their own money to let a machine take it away from them.
We have casinos all over our state but they don't give us such great deals.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure that most casinos don't give you deal. They just want to steal your money.
DeleteYou definitely won on the food if not on the machines. At least you reinforced your resolve not to waste your own money. Also the casino hasn't gone bust - one wouldn't want to see that happen!
ReplyDeleteThis casino is very good to seniors.
DeleteOnly ever one winner - and it's not the person putting their money in the slot
ReplyDeleteI think they get about 90% of the money. Here the government gets a large proportion of the money.
DeleteHi Red, This post really made me smile. It reminded me of a time several years ago when a good friend and I would drive up to Snoqualmie Casino (from Seattle, about 30 mins) with the main objective of enjoying lunch at the Casino buffet. Like you said, the food was great. And, like you, we had to have a “loyalty card” to get the lunch for free. Of course, it was necessary to build up “points” on the card and that was done by playing the slots or the table games. Looking back on it now, I’m pretty sure I lost more money at the slots than those lunches would have cost if we paid full price. 😊 Like yourself, I’m not much of a gambler … haven’t been up to the Casino in years, but it was fun, and I still feel that buffet calling from time to time. Have a great day. John
ReplyDeleteIf this casino didn't have the attractions of good food and deals for seniors , I wouldn't go near the casino.
DeleteI've never been to a casino...
ReplyDeleteI've only seen this in movies...
i guess i wouldn't use money...
but in the movie it's great fun to watch :-)))
Greetings to you from Viola
Viola, thanks for visiting Hiawatha house and leaving a comment.
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteThe food prices sound great. I do not like loosing my money, no gambling for me. Take care, enjoy your day and the weekend ahead.
Up here in rural North Yorkshire gambling is almost a way of life for some people.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately it's a way of life for some people here too.

ReplyDeleteSpoken by a true non-gambler. I've never understood the draw, either, but then again, I don't seem to have the correct genes.
It's just hard to understand how people can part with hard earned money and get nothing for it.
DeleteI guess that's why there's a saying, "Easy come, easy go."
ReplyDeleteThat line is in one of the songs the Pussy Cat groups sings. Never heard of Pussy Cat. They were a European girl band in the 70's. I'll bet you know the band.
DeleteI'm with you. We live not far from the Seneca reservation and they have a huge casino. We have never been, but I know a woman who saves money, and when she gets $2000 she goes to the casino. She always loses it, but claims it is fun. I would be sick to lose $2000 in one go. But she does it 3 or 4 times a year.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been to the casino is years. I've had a couple of decent wins, but I tended to spin on the lowest bet so my decent was just a few hundred dollars. I always had a strict cash limit and never went over it. The last time, friends and I were meeting for a dinner and show at the casino, and since I arrived a little early, I tossed $20 into a machine and walked away with $150. I haven't tried my luck since then. :)
ReplyDeleteFunny how the casinos always have such good food.
Casinos have a number of gimmicks to get you in the door like food and various draws for free.
DeleteMachines have the worst odds for the gamblers. And remember the old saying, "the house always wins".
ReplyDeletethe house takes close to 90%. Here the government gets most of the money.
DeleteI never gambled and like you, I don't understand why lots of people do. You lose more than win and it's never in your favor to win.
ReplyDeleteFor you it makes logical sense not to gamble. Other people must see something else.
DeleteThe house always wins.
ReplyDeleteThe house gets close to 90% of your money.
DeleteI'm with you on this. I've even spent a night in Las Vegas, on the way to somewhere else, and never gambled a dime. Casinos turn me off.
ReplyDeleteThe casino itself is very tacky. However they do have some deals that I will gladly take.
DeleteWe went to Vegas once, not to gamble but to experience Vegas and visit the Grand Canyon. We lost the gifted $20.00 each too. That was enough for us!
ReplyDeleteGreat deal on breakfast, Red.
The $20.00 gets you on the machine. I can pass on Vegas.

ReplyDeleteWe have several local racing tracks with gambling. A friends urges me constantly to accompany her husband and herself. She'll even give me $20 to experiment with. What is it with this $20 thing. I've never taken her up on the offer.
ReplyDeleteYup, I have a certain relative that does it all the time. She tells me that she wins every time she goes to Vegas. Hmmm... But how much does she put in the machine to win every time? They call Las Vegas the 9th Island. I think it becomes an addiction.
ReplyDeletei think casino can has policy to attract people to play gamble so they send free point to feel them lucky and excited first .that is how such schemes work probably (my opinion)
ReplyDeleteGambling is for mugs. I am glad that you have resisted the Casino's attempts to get you hooked. The Casino or the betting company always win.
ReplyDeleteIt is an addiction, Red. It is a chemical reaction. There is a rush waiting for the ball to drop. There was an interesting phone-in on CBC Ontario about this. I am fed up with all the gambling ads.
ReplyDeleteThe food is a draw for you to gamble. We don't go anymore...the buffet used to be 4.99 all you could eat...it is too bad of sir quality...too many smokers and perfume wearing ladies:)
ReplyDeleteI once got a similar freebie, and I won — for awhile. I tink I actually cashed-in at least a little. I don’t gamble either.
