BACK TO SCHOOL

In many  jurisdictions school has been starting the last few  weeks.

Today I was reminded of this yearly event when my grand nieces showed their kids on first day of school photo

The first day of school photo was kind of a ritual. . In looking for photos I found many of my kids. It went from kindergarten to gr. seven or eight. Then they got too big for the back to school photo. I thought I had one where they came to the school I was teaching in and they were both in the same school.

My Mom lined us up on the first day of school and took a photo.

My son and daughter starting kindergarten and gr two.

My brother and I starting gr. one and two. I had an abscessed tooth so my face is swollen.

I taught for 37 years so had all these kids who'd just had their pictures taken by their Mom.

  2. If my mom took pictures of my brother and I on the first day of school, I neither recall nor have seen the picture evidence. But I have a full set for my eldest through her senior year and the youngest through her current grade level.

  3. The first day of school photograph is a tradition in so many families. Lovely to look back and gasp at how small and young they were.

  5. I did a back to school shoot with my grands maybe five years ago and still have the results on my walls. Then it became a frenzies shoot along with the step sisters on the morning of, and it wasn’t fun anymore. I am still a little miffed at that.

  14. What a lovely record for people to have of their (or their children's) growing up.
Maybe I'm out of touch but I think the annual first day photo is newish in Australia. Certainly in my family there have only been photos on the first ever day of school and first day of high school

  15. If my parents took any pictures of my brother and I on our first day of school, I have never seen them. But then, my mother was a teacher and had a hard enough time getting herself and two kids ready, let alone take a photo! I love the photos you posted, Red. I have similar ones of our kids in elementary school. Once they got to Grade 7, they didn't want photos taken at any time :)
