IT'S BEEN A BLUE , BLUE DAY

Today we had one of those winter days with a lot of nasty winter characteristics. We had intensive cloud cover and snow. So the day was very dark even at 11:00 AM when these photos were taken. It was minus 18C (minus 1 F).

So in the afternoon I began shoveling snow from the sidewalk and driveway. The wind had picked up by them

We picked up 4 or 5 cm of snow. Since it's very cold the snow is dry and powdery.

...an nickel to the first person to tell me where I stole the title from!

  1. I don't know where you got the title but I like how you captured the atmosphere in the air.

  2. Brrr! That's cold and it looks it too. We have a big cold front and snow moving in here tomorrow.

I think your title is also the name of a song!

    1. Yes , the name of a song. It depends on how old you are and what kind of music you listened to if you know about this one.

  4. It's been a blue, blue day,
    I feel like running away,
I feel like running away from it all.
My love has been untrue, she's found somebody new,
It's been a blue, blue day for me
    .......
I started singing as soon as I saw the words.
As for the singer - I will not get the nickel..
I've guessed at Bobby Darin, Buddy Holly and The Everly Brothers. Nobody in the house can tell me, they're all at least 15 years younger than me.
When I've posted the comment I'll Google it.
    Anyway, what's a nickel worth?

  5. I believe it is the title of a song by Don Gibson - now where's my nickel? A gallon of maple syrup will do instead.

  6. Your temps are very cold. We have a cold front coming this weekend and lasting all week but the temps won't match yours.
My guess on where you got the title is from Don Gibsons' song of the same name. https://youtu.be/c9VAHd5DFTY

    1. I didn't think you were old enough to have listened to Don Gibson. He was big during his time.

  7. I don't know that phrase exactly, but I do know that February can be described as the Bleakest Month.

    1. It was a very dull day. You would be old enough to remember this guy if you listened to country music.

  10. Hello,

The minus temperatures are way too cold for me. We have snow on the ground now and more maybe coming next week with temps in the single digits. Now, I am wishing winter was over. I am guessing the title is part of a song. Take care, have a happy weekend!

  11. Well, I didn't see any blue in your pictures, but it's the title of a song that escapes me at the moment. It sure looks cold, Red!

  13. The title of the song Blue, Blue Day by Don Gibson starts with the title of your post.

I am glad your wife is on puréed food for only two weeks. That must be a relief.

    Hope all is well.

  14. I looked it up. But I won't say in case someone else actually knows the answer.

    1. You're too young to remember Don Gibson and then you didn't listen to country music.

  16. Truth be told, even with the blizzard the other day and the cold snap this week, it has been a pretty mild winter for us. I'm not going to complain yet but I might if February ends up being like this all month long.

  18. Sure hope that you have a lot of nickels, Red, but then you did say that the first person to state where the blog post came from would be the sinner. We all know how to look things up online to learn that it was indeed a song by Don Gibson.

  21. I think it's cold because it's 3ºC and gales force winds. The coldest weather I have ever experienced was -26ºC in Sarnia, Ontario.

    1. Yes, it can get cold at Sarnia but Timmins can be much colder. I've never been to Saria but attended a conference in Timmins.
