I SHOULD HAVE KEPT MY MOUTH SHUT

      A few days ago we had very pleasant weather. We had highs of 11 and 12 C for several days. These are above normal for us at this time of year.

      Unfortunately, I told someone about the pleasant weather.

      What should immediately show up on the forecast? SNOW! Not just snow , but lots of snow and for many days and the temperatures would also drop.

      I should have kept my mouth shut. Here are a few photos to show you what it's like. We've ad about 10 cm of snow which is a lot for us. 

      It was very dull. I tried to take a cut in the snow to show the depth of the snow.

WHITE STUFF

       Well, no surprise. We're getting a major dump of snow. We had 2 - 3 inches by about 4.30 PM. It's been coming down steadily since then. I will shovel again this evening. 

      The first phots were taken in the day time . The others were taken this evening. 

NEW SNOW

       We just had about 12 in of snow over four days. For us that's a lot of snow. 

      In my chinook post someone asked if there was flooding if the snow melted so quickly. Our snow is dry and powdery because of the temperature. 10 in of our snow equals one inch of water. So you see there's not much water for flooding. 

     However, where I was going with this post is that new snow is brilliant and white. It's pretty. So yesterday it was clear and sunny. It was bright. You needed your sunglasses. Well, you don't need sunglasses for my photos. With white snow and full sun it's bright. 

     I was out for three hours yesterday cleaning up the snow. Numerous flocks of geese flew over. 

    Now I enjoyed the bright new snow. I hope you do too.  

    I put out the fat in my bird feeder. An hour later this white breasted nuthatch appeared.  He/she would not cooperate and pose in the light.

IT'S BEEN A BLUE , BLUE DAY

 

       Today we had one of those winter days with a lot of nasty winter characteristics. We had intensive cloud cover and snow. So the day was very dark even at 11:00 AM when these photos were taken. It was minus 18C (minus 1 F).

      So in the afternoon I began shoveling snow from the sidewalk and driveway. The wind had picked up by them 

      We picked up 4 or 5 cm of snow. Since it's very cold the snow is dry and powdery. 

      ...an nickel to the first person to tell me where I stole the title from!

SNOW POSTS AGAIN

      It seems that I have more photos and post on snow than any other topic. Well, here's another snow post.

     We have had a very beautiful September and up until Oct. 13. We had warm dry weather. I enjoyed every day of it. On the 13 th we had 2 cm of snow which melted Wed. and Thur. Today we've had 10 cm of snow. We do get heavy snow in September but not very often. 

   So here's my snow today.

WINTER PHOTOS

      I don't have very many photos on my blog. Lack of photos concerns me but many of my topics don't lend themselves to photos.
      
      Today will be different as this is a photo post.

      I spent the afternoon going over photos and found one set of photos that I liked and decided to post them. The photos are from 2015 but they show some nice winter days after a big snow fall.

MICRO SHOVELLER

      We have had lots of snow falls but none of them have been heavy deep snows. We've had some heavy wet snow which is difficult to shovel as it is very heavy. Then it doesn't fall off your shovel like it should. I don't mind shoveling light dry snow. It's light and you can easily move it away from walks or drive ways.

      Now I can handle snow shoveling. I might be  bit slow but I get there. Yesterday we were lucky and looked out the window to find Brandie, from across the street,  shoveling our side walk.

     Now from time to time the micro manager says she would like to get some fresh air and she goes out to shovel snow. She does an excellent job and the walks are clean after she's finished.

      Now the micro snow shoveller doesn't like photos taken of her. This photo is not flattering. However. she does very well at 4' 10" and more than 80 to shovel all the snow sometimes.

      She has had the winter cap for about 25 years. She got it in her cross country ski days. 

HEY, I'VE GOT LOTS OF SNOW AGAIN!

    I should not have posted my last post about our spring season progressing. What did I get today?  Well, snow and lots of it. It snowed all day...heavy wet stuff. We ended up with about 10 cm (4 in).

    Now I know better than to brag a little about good weather. Too many times it can turn ugly in a hurry.

    So here's what it looks like today.

ONE SHOULDN'T SNICKER

    When I was still teaching one year on the last day before Christmas holidays a kid came to the concert with a newly broken arm. I said to the kid that I had never had a broken bone.




     Well guess what? The next day I fell and broke my wrist. Worse than that I was doing the Christmas bird count so I was fair game for all kinds of ribbing like " I didn't know birding was a dangerous sport. "

     Well on my last post I made a few remarks about people who have spring weather that is ten times better than mine and they still wanted better weather. I should have known to keep my mouth shut. 

    Over night we had 15 to 20 cm of snow. Lovely soft white stuff just made for shoveling. The snowplow had just finished yesterday. 

    Why don't I keep my mouth shut?
