MISSING IN ACTION.

      I haven't posted for a week but I have a good reason.

Did I ever tell you that I hate shopping? Well, I have posted a few times of how I hate shopping.

I had to do some shopping (not Christmas) so I was unable to post.

So recently I noticed that the ice cream would not stay hard in the freezer part of my fridge so we decided to buy a new fridge. The fridge was 34 years old so it had lasted a long time but the Micro Manager didn't want to part with it. So we started looking for fridges and took our time. We finally settled on a Frigidaire fridge.

Before we could get our new fridge home the clothes washer died. The door locked and would not open. A few days later it opened but I said we'll get a new washer because next time it might lock with a load of clothes.

So more shopping for a washer.

We made a deal on a LG washer and had both the fridge and washer delivered.

So they drop a fridge and washer in my house and I have to set it up. The fridge was simple but the washer was a challenge.

The washer comes with connector hoses. You are to run water throw the hoses to clean them out. The were kinked up . I held the wrong hose so the water came out the other hose and sprayed the washroom before I knew what was going on.

There are several other things that have to be set for a washer. It must be level. It's easy if your floor is level but my floor is uneven .

So that's my excuse for not posting for a few days.

  1. That is a job to have to buy two major appliances at the same time! It sounds like a real pain to set up the washer too. Our washer is going out and I keep putting off getting a new one but I know I'm taking a chance to wait. You deserve a break now after all that!

  2. Well you were certainly kept busy with the buying of the appliances and more busy with setting them up. I'm glad that's all sorted out for you and the Micro Manager. Now you can enjoy the upcoming Christmas season without all those headaches.

    1. Appliances are so frustrating as we need to have them. Two weeks without washing clothes is a bit much.

  3. Hello,
The last time we bought a washer, they delivery men hooked it up. It seems hard just trying to decide which brand of appliances to buy. Have a happy weekend.

    1. We've dealt with the same appliance dealer for quite a while . They are very helpful, but you still have to check things out.

  6. That is an excellent reason not to post!
I loathe shopping. Since JB can't drive with his meds, I drive him and he goes in the stores.
I attached my new LG washing machine, the hoses leaked, and we had to lift the basement carpet. What a time that was!

    1. I was really worried about the hoses on the washer but they didn't leak.

  7. "When it rains, it pours!" Too bad your fridge and washer went out! I am surprised you had to install them yourself. I would have to have that done as I wouldn't know where to begin.
Hope you enjoy your new appliances!

  9. Well, that seems reasonable enough. You've had a lot to deal with! Won't the appliance store install your purchases for you? Anything involving water or plumbing I leave to the professionals.

    1. They will install the appliance but I chose to do it myself and have it done right according to the book.

  10. Wow, you were really busy there. No wonder you didn't have time to post. Buying two big appliances like that really takes a lot of attention.

  11. Personally, I don't mind the shopping. But for all the reasons you cite, it's the set-up that I don't like. Regardless, good luck with your new appliances.

  12. I completely understand. Fortunately when we had our new washer delivered a couple of weeks ago the delivery guys also set it up for us. It took them about five minutes, free delivery, and they hauled away the old one for $25.

  13. I hate replacing appliances. I never seem to be able to do it without several trips to the hardware store and dozens of trips to the garage for this tool or that.

  14. Installing appliances is not my thing but at least you got it done. I wonder if these new appliances will last as long as the ones you are replacing.

  15. Ouch - two major appliances in a week! And I've heard from a few reliable people that new appliances, especially fridges, don't last nearly as long as they used to. I hate to say this in case it jinxes my fridge, but ours is the original one we bought in 1980 and it's still working. Friends who've bought recently have had theirs stop working in 5-8 years! If I bought anything with plumbing now I'd have to get someone in to hook it up. My husband used to do all of it himself.

  16. Wow, Red, it sounds like a nightmare. When I get a new appliance, like a washer, I ask the company selling it to deliver it and hook it up. Things like a washer and fridge are so heavy I can't move them around easily to hook things up. Hope it all works out OK.

  17. YOWCH! We always have the store install the appliances because it can be such a headache. We did have a retired plumber friend do our dishwasher and poor guy took a couple of hours. I felt so bad for him.

  19. Two major appliances in a week! I hope someone gave you a discount for that!

I find it so easy these days to purchase online, have the thing delivered and installed and the old taken away.

I'd never manage if it wasn't all done for me

  21. Not very fun things to shop for. I hope your new fridge has the same amazing life expectancy your old one did! 34 years sounds like a record.

  22. And just what was your dryer and stove doing while the two other appliances died? Keep a close eye on them as well.

New appliances are never so easy as bringing them in, hooking them up, and turning them on. It usually requires multiple trips to the hardware store for Tim.
