Looking back I can see that I've written at least six posts about my printer not working. Well, I shouldn't accuse the printer of not working. Mostly it was the operator who didn't know what he was doing.
This time it's the scanner. I've never used the scanner very much . It always seemed like a guessing game to get the scanner to work. Brother has very poor directions as to how to use things. This last while, I knew the scanner wasn't working. Brother directed me to program to install new drivers.
Now I'm pretty scary when it comes to downloads and installation. I admit that I don't know what I'm doing. So we'll download this. I'm not sure if this downloaded or not ! Well , hell, I'll down load it again. There doesn't seem to be any good information for Dummies.
Well after trying everything I know my scanner isn't working. It worked one evening and then it died again.
So I'm going to have to ask Mr Brother again for some advice.
While I've been doing all this messing around , I've learned a few things, if only I could remember what I've learned.
I can commiserate with you Red. All of my equipment is getting so old that even newer drivers will not work on the computer. At least the scanner has been working for me but now and then I'm in a muddle to figure out how to get it going again. I guess I should look for a newer computer soon but I hear they have risen in price since Covid (and the lack of available parts).
ReplyDeleteYou're doing great to keep this one running.
DeleteI'm in the same computer class with you Mr. Red. I'm afraid to do anything or permit upgrades for fear of seeing things messed up, especially on my cell phone.
ReplyDeleteYou're a step ahead of me if you've got a scanner and know how to use it, much less send something electronically that was scanned.
AARP has some Senior computer classes. I should check them out. Meanwhile I don't touch much of anything without my grown kids at my elbow. Linda in Kansas
You know, you've jogged my memory . I think one of our senior centers helps senior with computers.
DeleteI can sure agree with you about printers. I've never met a printer I liked as it seems there is always some problem coming up with them. I do okay with my scanner but it is not part of the printer. The main thing to know about downloading drivers is to know what folder they download into on your computer. More than likely they go to the download folder unless you specified a different location. Then you have to click on what they downloaded and follow instructions to get it on your scanner. That's probably not much help but it's worth a try. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteYou know you've given me something to try. I'm quite sure what I did was downloaded and installed.
DeleteThat all sounds uncomfortably familiar to me from my early years using computer equipment. I'm just a little bit better now, but still far from confident. My printer, for example, works according to its own flexible timetable - sometimes it works, sometimes not. I talk to it nicely but it still doesn't really like me.
ReplyDeleteI hear the same story on printers from many people.
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI am weary of downloading anything onto my computer, things do not always go smoothly. I hope your printer problems are solved. Take care, enjoy your day. Have a happy new week!
When downloading we have to be very careful that we are using a reliable source.
DeleteThe movie, O Brother (as in wherefore art thou) would probably be of no help, but it was a fun movie. We even bought the soundtrack.
ReplyDeleteNice one. Yes, where is my scanner?
DeleteIf only I lived in Red Deer! I could be round your house in a jiffy to get your scanner working again and then I would have a nice chat with you and Jean about your Arctic adventures and Royston near Barnsley and maybe you'd get out your bottle of Canadian Club whisky and we'd clink glasses in friendship.
ReplyDeleteWell, I don't have any whiskey but fixing my problem sounds like a good deal.
DeleteI do hope this gets resolved without any major problems, Red. I don't try to use a scanner any more, since I can take pictures of just about anything with my phone. :-)
ReplyDeleteIt will be solved but in the meantime it's a headache.
DeleteYour last sentence describes my life too! There are many of us in the same boat!
ReplyDeleteYes, unfortunately. some of our memory doesn't work anymore.
DeleteI don't use my scanner often either so it is always like starting over again when I do have to use it. My computer is pretty old (a hand-me-down from my sister) but it works well enough for my needs for now. I am falling behind with technology but can't seem to care.
ReplyDeleteI tell the Micro manager the same thing. Technology has left me far behind.
DeleteOne day, this day will come to all of us. I hope I have the grace to deal with it like you.
ReplyDeleteWell, I happen to be lucky and able to roll with the punches. I do not lose my cool! Well, rarely lose my cool!
Delete"If only I could remember what I learned," that sums up how I relate to computers, printers, and scanners. I think everything should just be "plug in your computer and VOILA! it does exactly what you want it to do."
ReplyDeleteYou know, it's not all bad. Each of us have things we are good at and can remember. I'm just not sure what I'm good at anymore!
DeleteTake notes!!
ReplyDeleteI "forgot " about that. And then I'd lose my notes. I should show you my desk which is piled with paper...notes!
DeleteArgh! Technology!
ReplyDeleteI thought a young guy like you would have no problems.
DeleteYour computer skills sound about on a par with mine. When in doubt press the nearest button and hope it is the right one.
ReplyDeleteYes, I do a lot of guessing.
DeleteI don't know if you have an instillation disk (software) that usually comes with scanner. You could uninstall from your computer and then use the disk to reinstall it. That's is what I did once and it worked fine after that.
ReplyDeleteYes, I do have a disk. It's like a lot of other Brother stuff. It's not the right one.
DeleteI bought an epson scanner, scanned everything I thought I ever could scan, and gave the epson away. Just another big thing needing storage. However! So many folks want things scanned over to them. Sigh. I just take pictures and send them.
ReplyDeleteThis is why I don't print at home.
ReplyDeleteThey are so complicated, they are such a pain in the butt!
ReplyDeleteI can feel your pain, Red. I haven't seen my big time techie son-in-law in Chicago in two years, but thank goodness I've got my brother here who can sometimes help. My brain can't hold all that techie information in.
