Our birding group met promptly at 10:00 AM and spent 2 1/2 hours in an area called Bower Woods. It's essentially a creek with a width of 2 or 3 hundred meters. However , it's heavily forested with mostly spruce and some poplar. It's just an excellent habitat for boreal birds.
The pioneering Bower family gave this land to the city for parkland. The city has put in an excellent trail system
My house is about 500 meters away from this stream . I've lived in this area since 1970 and have made great use of the area. Many photos I show have been taken in this area.
So here is the description of what we saw today.
I love your pictures! What a lovely wooded area to walk and how wonderful that it is near your home. That's a nice list of birds spotted as well.
ReplyDeleteI have made great use of the trails. Now it's mostly to get a photo.
DeleteWhat a delightful adventure! (ツ) from Cottage Country Ontario , ON, Canada!
ReplyDeleteA group of people like this is always interesting.
DeleteThat seems ratty wide to call a creek, and it seems to have a good flow.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what the creek definition really is. This stream flows all year. I have only once found it not flowing.
DeleteHow nice to live so close to a good hiking spot! I appreciate all of the park areas that have been set aside in my area. They would be covered with buildings if people hadn't thought ahead to save them!
ReplyDeleteSad thing is that people don't donate their property for park space these days.
DeleteSounds like a wonderful day there for birding. You see so many species so close to home. Lovely!
ReplyDeleteIt was a great day but also a great location.
DeleteA wonderful way to spend time!
ReplyDeleteWe had a good time.
DeleteThat is a good list of birds. It is amazing how different ones that were seen.
ReplyDeleteBirding has gone high tech. Apps are used to identify birds even if they are not seen. It's a long way from the days of the bird book.
DeleteA lovely group and a goodly number of spotted birds. Or, birds spotted.
ReplyDeleteWe don't miss a thing these days. Turn on your app and it identifies all the birds.
ReplyDeleteA great collection of sightings Red! I enjoyed reading about them.
