I'M FORTUNATE

I have to consider myself very fortunate as people do things for me and I have not asked for help.

We've had some snow and cold the last few days. We've had 5 to 10 cm (2 to 4 in) . Well you know , it has to be shoveled. I also have more than my share of sidewalks ...about 150 ft. So when we get the 2 to 4 in of snow it's a lot of work.

Now I'm very capable of shoveling snow . I will also shovel snow for other people.

I have four people I know who have cleared my sidewalk and one other person that I have not identified. So that's a lot of help. I was outside when one guy came along and he told me to go in my house and he would also do my drive way.

So I am fortunate and thankful that people come by and shovel snow for me.

So here we are in our younger years shoveling snow. Well, I see it's only 9 years ago!

    1. Fortunately I'm still able to handle it. It doesn't have to be done all at once.

  2. Good heavens man! You were a member of the noble teaching profession. There's no way you should be shovelling snow like one of those rough and ready manual workers. You should be inside with a mug of cocoa reading "Teacher Man" by Frank McCourt.

  9. I am lucky to have my oldest son living with me and he loves to shovel. Also, we have a snow blower to use when needed. Neighbors in my cul de sac always help each other when it comes to snow shoveling! Glad you have helpers too!

    1. I wish my son was living here but I wouldn't want him to change where he has chosen to be.

  10. I think many a person will have a personal story behind why they might do that. My uncle, who's since passed away, had a heart attack while shoveling.

    1. Elderly people should only shovel snow if they are healthy.

  11. Back when I lived in a more densely populated area, I often "shoveled" neighboring driveways with my snowblower. But at this house, we don't have sidewalks and everybody on the street but me pays to have a snowplow truck clear their driveways so I'm left just doing my own.

    1. Your neighbors must be rich if they all hire snow clearing.

  15. That's a good neighborhood!
We do very little snow shoveling here. Usually our heavy, wet snow melts fast.

  20. We used to often help to shovel the driveway for our older neighbors in Illinois. I'm glad we don't have to worry about shoveling snow anymore. I'm really happy to hear you have wonderful people around you who are willing to pay it forward or sidewards.
