There are some things I just have to see when they come in season. One of the things I must see and take photos of is the yellow lady slippers. They are an attractive flower.
At one time I had the mistaken idea that yellow lady slippers were rare ,but not so. Yellow lady slippers will grow under many conditions. They will grow in disturbed soils. You can find them growing in a ditch be side the road.
Last Sunday I went out to my favorite patch of Yellow Lady slippers. There were more flowers blooming than last year.
So along with the lady slippers I caught a few other blooms. This site is about 2 acres. In the last photo I tried to show the number of lady slippers in a patch but it doesn't show what I saw.
I'm not surprised that you'd want to reacquaint yourself with such beauties every year. Our Lady's Slipper Orchids are very rare indeed, though I've seen them in the Dolomites.
ReplyDeleteOur eyes seem to see so much more than the camera sometimes..or is our brain selective on detail?
ReplyDeleteThat butterfly is interesting..different, almost mothlike
Our ‘Showy’ ladyslippers (red & white) are blooming now, but they are almost an hour away, and I can’t really get down to their level anyway, so I’ll miss them again this year.
ReplyDeleteLady slippers are pretty and delicate. I’ve only every seen one of the two species we have here. You did well seeing that number of yellows.
ReplyDeleteI love those flowers and think of Far Side when I see them. Thanks for the pictures, Red.
ReplyDeleteThose are exotic looking flowers, Red! I can see why you seek them out each year. I am like that with the bluebells that bloom in April/May here. I am always so happy to see them each year!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty!! I always like to see them!
ReplyDeleteThose lady slippers look so exotic. It surprises me that they live in a climate that gets as cold as yours; seems like they'd be more tropical.
ReplyDeleteYour moth is Ctenucha virginica, I believe. According to Wikipedia, it's native to eastern North America and scientists in Alberta say it's been expanding westward in recent decades.
The flowers are beautiful, I don't think I've ever seen them before.
ReplyDeleteVery attractive flowers and that butterfly or moth is quite showy him/her self.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, as is that little moth!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Red, for the pictures. Lady Slippers are pretty. I like this business of you going out, getting some pictures of nature, and sharing them with us. Hope to see more of it.
