MORE MURALS

As I said when I showed you murals from a previous post, there are more. I finally got out to find the murals and take some photos. They are not as good as the first murals I showed. I also was out on a very bright day so some of the photos are not that good but you're going to see them anyway.

Well, I guess you have the choice of looking at them or not!

As usual, a few cars are in the way and a cyclist photo bombed me in one photo. The one I like is the owl on the building. They used the shape of the building but otherwise it's a little rough.

MORE MURALS

I planned my downtown trip today so that I could get some more mural photos that  I found recently.

I hit it lucky today and found an artist working on a painting. He told me where I could find more of his work. I like what he's doing since it's on a smaller scale.

Some great work here.

Artist and helper

Artist hard at work.

I'm not sure how the fox and lines behind the fox are related.

This one is a little busy with butterflies

Yes, I know these aren't murals but they are part of the sky line right now.

CATCHING UP?

Some of the blogs I follow show many excellent murals on buildings. It seems that wall murals are very common in Europe and they have some excellent artists.

So what a surprise a few days ago when I was downtown and saw a major mural project. It will take us a long time to catch up to other places with murals.

It looks like more murals are planned so you might see some more photos here.

Magpies would be a good subject here . Enlarge and read the information. The artist some how or other did not use the lower left of the space?  Some guy tried to help out with the empty space by parking is car in front of the empty space.

Now I really like this mural. The space was well used and I wonder what the person is thinking about? Freedom?

This mural is a waste of paint unless the building owner just wanted a paint job.

ANOTHER MURAL

I found another mural which is quite different than the musician mural. This mural was a high school art project.

They have a theme and then laid it out nicely and did a super job of the painting.

They did a good job  of showing street scenes from different times in our history.

ANOTHER MURAL

As most of you know I like wall murals. I enjoy seeing good quality wall murals. There are many styles and the topics are endless. Each artist has his/her own style. The beauty is that the art is very visible in the community. It's seen! Many artists produce things and they are not seen or appreciated .

The mural I'm showing today took a long time to complete. The local paper did a couple of stories while the work was in progress. I didn't take a good look at it until the other day. With this one you have to get out of the car to have a good look. You see much more when you walk up to it. However, to photograph this mural you have to back up against a wall. What I ended up doing is taking photos of each section.

Of course the wall belongs to a pub/restaurant that puts on shows.

So this mural is not only in a difficult position to photograph but it could have been in more vivid color and sharper detail.

MURALS

Our small city has a few murals. As with all murals some are good some are bad and a lot are in between.

I have been looking at one of these murals for five years or more. I can see it from a parking lot that I use when I wait for the micro manager to do some business. Usually  I forget to take my camera. Sometimes it's too cold or wet or poor light! What a long list of poor excuses. When I'm in this parking lot I'm parked illegally to some extent. The parking lot is provided by the business so it wouldn't be cool to park and then walk away to take photos.

Well, the other day I did get my act together.

This mural is rather small and is at the end of an alley. It's kind of roughly done but you are drawn to the rather wild expression.

Now I thought there might be another mural two or three doors up the alley so I continued. Yes there was another mural on the back of an old hotel that has been remodeled to provide housing to homeless who qualify. This mural had a much more complex idea.

On my way back from photographing the second mural I found a third mural that was on  a wall beside the first one. You can see the first mural on the right.Again it is rather simple.

So here you are. I got three murals in one day.

The area has a large homeless population as some of their friends have accommodation so there is visiting.

I know there are more murals in the city. I just have to find them and get over all my weak excuses.

MORE MUSEUM

In my last post I showed you the south side of the museum with the murals made from photos of Canadian people.

Today I'll show the back of the museum and the north side.

Most back entrances are  neglected and rather unattractive. Not so with this museum. Large squares make the back walls eye catching.

On the north side they have chosen to cover with local street scenes from the past.

This flag has been seen all over Canada this summer to mark our 150th anniversary.

Wall Murals

I like wall murals. They are like a theme with many details. So you have a painting that covers a vast amount of space or time. All of it is connected together.

Now I did a series on sculpture in my city. I like what we have in this city as far as sculpture is concerned.

Unfortunately when it comes to murals we are lacking in number and quality. With the sculpture there must have been very careful guidelines. The murals seem to lack anything that stands out and jumps at you.

I found three murals and I know there is a fourth. That's not many murals. I found the fourth mural the other day but I didn't get a photo.

This mural is about 50 ft. long and is ceramic.  This one really moves. It's on the north side of the swimming pool and I did not choose a good time to photograph it.

This is about 8 x 12 and was done on separate material and attached to a wall.

This one's kind of funky and put directly on to the brick wall.

This one is about 12 x 24 and also put on separate material and attached to a wall.
